The Friends of the Almaden Library began supporting the Almaden Branch Library over 25 years ago. Formed in 1979, they held their first book sale in 1980, and since then have been steadily increasing their funding of special programs and purchase of extra library materials. While the library was closed for reconstruction during 2003-2006, the Friends group worked together with the Friends of the Vineland Branch Library to get their new group started. When the new Almaden Library/Community Center opened on May 13, 2006, the Friends of the Almaden Library began functioning as a separate group again.
The first annual meeting of the Friends of the Almaden Library in the new building was held on May 30, 2006, and included the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Friends group. From then on, the new Almaden Library and the Friends of the Almaden Library were off and running. Read below about all of our activities. | Members from Friends of the Library groups from the main King Library and the San Jose branch libraries are working together as the San Jose All Friends to discuss our operations and to help one another in common goals.  The All Friends Web site includes book sale dates for various branches, which branches have extra books to share and which need more donations, as well as helpful aids in becoming 501(c)(3) non-profit corporations.
